  • Blackout 18U Brown Runner Up in Redding Round Up 18U Tournament.

< Back Blackout 18U Brown Runner Up in Redding Round Up 18U Tournament. Web Administrator Jan 29, 2024 Resilience and grittiness falls just short in the championship game. Weekend Summary The Southern Oregon Blackout 18U Brown team displayed a showcase of resilience and grittiness against the other teams in the tournament over the weekend as they ended up with a 4-2 record and second place overall. Blackout went 2-1 on a wet and rainy day on Saturday in Redding (CA) and earned the third seed for bracket play on Sunday. First game was against a familiar foe in Powerhouse Fastpitch (Medford, OR) , who gave Blackout their only loss in pool play. Powerhouse Fastpitch held the lead for most of the game 4-0, but the bats turned hot for Southern Oregon Blackout as they scored four late runs to send the game into extra innings. In overtime, Blackout held Powerhouse scoreless and allowed Southern Oregon to score the winning run to move on to the next game. In game two, Blackout jumped on High Desert Renegades (Bend, OR ) with 4 runs and had to hold down the stretch with great defense to win 4-2. The championship game was even early on against Firecrackers Leles (Rancho Cordova, CA) until the Firecrackers scored the next 6 runs in a span of two innings to take a 7-1 lead. Southern Oregon Blackout chipped away at the lead and got within 1 run late in the game thanks to a 3-run homerun shot by Amanda Hammer with two outs. Despite the effort, the Firecrackers got the final out and the game was over. Previous Next

  • Jessica Morton | Southern Oregon Blackout Softball

Jessica Morton (12U) <<< Back "This is where my real passion stems from. After having my college experience, I knew that I wanted to help other girls have this opportunity knowing that a small-town girl like me could go and play Division 1 softball or any level they wanted, the opportunity is there! Looking back, I had some amazing people in my life that supported me and believed in me. I want to be that person for other young athletes, to help them navigate their softball journey after travel ball and high school. If they work hard, it can most definitely be a reality to play at the next level!" Jessica was born and raised in Grants Pass, Oregon. She graduated High School from Grants Pass in 2003 and was a three-sport athlete lettering in: Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball. After high school Jessica received a full ride scholarship to the University of Hawaii Manoa for softball. Jessica has said many times, University of Hawaii Manoa and playing softball was the best time of my life'. During this time, Jessica traveled to almost every state, and played some of the best schools, along with the US National Team more than once. Her biggest recalled memory in college was beating UCLA at UCLA to advance to NCAA Super Regionals, then moving on to face The Vols at Tennessee. Her team split the series going to game 3 and ended up losing to one of the best pitchers out there - Monica Abbott . After college, Jessica went on to play in Australia for a few months and then came back to the island of Oahu to start her grown up life. Softball has been such a huge part of her life for as long as she can remember. Jessica grew up on a ball field watching both of her parents play coed softball . Jessica quickly grew to love the game of softball and has dedicated herself in becoming a leader to many girls and acknowledged as a decorated pitching coach. Her time playing has taught her leadership, time management, the importance of team bonding with teammates, what it means to be humble, confidence and discipline. Her most cherished memory is the time spent with my team and how we carried each other through good and bad times, all while being away from family. The bond that she created with her college team and her current softball teammates will forever be with her.
